Green Team
Many of our Maplewood students, parents, and educators are passionate about caring for our environment and are trying to help Maplewood earn its “Green Flag” eco-school status as participants of the Maplewood Green Team. Green Team members must be willing to occasionally pick up litter on campus, sort out recycling when spotted in a landfill bin, attend presentations by guest speakers such as arborists or biologists, attend field trips to hike or learn about Earth-related topics, teach other students about recycling, composting, gardening, etc., and be the kind of person who simply loves being in nature. The Green Team is led by volunteer Sara Montoya.
No Place for Hate Student Committee
Led by Ms. Kirk, our amazing counselor, a group of about 30 3rd-6th graders help keep our school “No Place for Hate,” while increasing the peace and thwarting bullying. The committee hosts PeaceFests every 9 weeks and regularly hosts community-building, health-enhancing events such as Red Ribbon Week or Mix It Up at Lunch Day. (Also see No Place for Hate under “Programs” tab.)
Safety Patrol
Under the guidance of Ms. Rogala and Ms. Bass, this committee of 4th and 5th Graders helps keep hallways safe and calm, supports students during dismissal, and also raise and lower the campus flag every day.
